It was the economic downturn in 2008 and a layoff that led me to living a slow travel European lifestyle. Unemployed and single, I began thinking about my future and how to turn an unfortunate situation into an opportunity of a lifetime. I started painting a new future in my mind. If I don't have a permanent residence and furnishings, then I could live anywhere in the world. I realized I'd be better off retired, unencumbered and free rather than continuing on the treadmill going nowhere. I devised a 3-year plan to live abroad in Europe on a fixed retirement budget.

Thank you for finding your way to my profile and blog. If you want to explore the idea of travel as an adventurous, in depth, experiential journey, and might consider living a local lifestyle abroad, then remember to revisit my site. Within these pages, I'll endeavor to share what I learned on my journey. I trust that you'll be able to apply the suggestions, tips and tools to your own slow travel planning.

What options might you have to carve out a 3-month period so you could live in a foreign county for an extended time? What's the first city you'd like to live in?
